The guardianship letter is a Croatian governmental requirement for minors camping in Croatia. The intent of this requirement is to prevent child trafficking in Europe and we will fully comply with this regulation. If you have a question that is not answered here, please let us know so that we can answer the question for you and anyone else who might have it.
What do I need to do with the Guardianship Letter?
If your child will be at camp, and you are not a volunteer staying at camp with them, then you must have a notarized Guardianship Letter giving Daniel Allen Nelson and Stephen Eric Meeker guardianship of your child for the duration of camp.
I’m driving kids to camp who are not my own, do I need a Guardianship Letter?
You need a guardianship letter to bring children who are not your own into Croatia unless they are accompanied by a parent. However, you can add your name to the Guardianship Letter in addition to Daniel Allen Nelson and Stephen Eric Meeker. To do so, just add your name, address, and birth date in the line following Dan and Steve’s name, address, and birth date. That way you will only need to get one letter notarized.
What language should the Guardianship Letter be in?
In a nutshell, Croatian is best. However, some notaries will not notarize a document they cannot read. If you cannot get a Croatian copy notarized then you should get a copy notarized in the language of the country you are from and then include the signed, Croatian language version so the border police can read it. Our web site and the email we sent out includes the English and Croatian versions of the document.
Is it possible to put two siblings on the same letter if they are coming to the same week of camp? This would save money from having to have two separate copies notarized.
Yes you can put siblings on the same letter. It’s only important that the dates are the same (the same camp) and that they are traveling together. This will not work for the campers if they are coming to different weeks of camp.
Since a parent/guardian will be serving at camp the whole time, does the camper need a Guardianship Letter?
As long as the parent/guardian will travel with the camper both ways and stay at camp while the camper is at camp, the camper does not need a Guardianhip Letter.
We live and work in one country, but maintain a residence in a different country (for example, a US Citizen living in Spain). Which address do we use on the Guardianship Letter?
Use the address for the country you live in and the Passport number from the country you have citizenship in. Please clarify your citizenship country for the passport number on the Guardianship Letter. Some of our campers are not US citizens, so we can’t put “US Passport Number” as the prompt for the passport country entry.
Do we use the starting and ending dates of the camp for the dates on the form? What about if the kids will be in the country a day extra on either side of the camp for travel? The form says “day and year”. I am assuming the month is needed as well?
Yes, use the dates that the child will be in country rather than the camp dates. Yes, day, month and year.
